Motivate and Inspire Through Effective Communication

Build excitement and motivate employees to focus on your 2012 company goals with incentive and reward programs. Incentives are effective because they take advantage of an innate human characteristic; the need to be recognized and rewarded for one’s efforts. A successful program clearly communicates what actions and behaviors the company values and can cover metrics such as increasing sales, improving quality, increasing safety or improving the overall health of your staff.  When building your program it is best to consider:

  • Build Brand Excitement –Create a theme that ties in with your goals and your company brand. Success is often dependent on how well you promote your promotion. Hand out promotional products, apparel or other items to remind your team of your theme and message. Hang posters or banners that reinforce the program and the goals you hope to achieve.
  • Incentivize – Use incentives to create employee advocates.  When employees know they can earn rewards for certain types of behavior, they tend to them adopt faster.  Incentives provide positive reinforcement for employees and management achieves the results they desire.
  • Reward – People love recognition, and programs creating benchmarks that enable you to publicly acknowledge achievement will boost company spirit.  Don’t forget to publicize awards so co-workers know who is successful and how they achieved their milestones.
  • Create a Competitive Environment – Creating internal teams is a great way to build camaraderie and heighten competitive spirit. Allow each team to build an identity. Give each team a unique identifier such as a shirt, lanyard or other visible piece of merchandise to set them apart.

The key to engaging employees with a company goal is to effectively communicate the objectives and the importance they play in the organization. Integrate those messages via email, digital media, print, and promotional items to ensure everyone stays on track and focused on your goals.
